The big problem on the ground righ now for everyone both sides is winters rolling in hard.
Putin could force everyone in Russia to be armed and go to the front line. They’re all gonna die in the brutal winter conditions. Ukraine has the thinnest of advantages being on home turf with support local.
You just can’t carry out a war in or with Russia or surrounds in winter. And the Russian army isn’t exactly well supplied nor cares about troop welfare exactly.
This could be over by Christmas. In big white flashes everywhere knowing Putin.
More in tune minds say you’ll see a lull in fighting as winter comes on both sides.

If the Russian boys want to run away, wouldn't getting on the bus, getting the ride to Ukraine, and then pulling out a white flag be the safest route?

Definitely not.

I can't keep track of everything. If Lyman falls do the Ukrainians just take a massive chunk of Luhansk?
Do they have enough momentum to take significant territory back anywhere else before winter?

I wonder if Putin uses nukes, the response from Nato will be to say 'we are not going to use nukes, but we are going to defend Ukraine' and just basically leave the nuclear shit on him (and not escalate a nuclear war)
then of course he might threaten to nuke those NATO countries that defend ukraine
and we are basically in a Cuban missile-crisis style scenario
only already a hot war

Requesting/applying for NATO membership now seems like a late move, no?

It’s more symbolic than anything. But it does seem like NATO will intervene more directly if Russia uses nukes.

Just wondered this, if (according to Putin) Ukraine is and always was Russia, why do they need to annex anything and then, when they do, say "people in these regions are now Russian forever."
Smells like Trump's Kettle Logic.

There is some evidence of Russia doing some sensible mobilization beyond all the shoddy mass of unequipped troops being stationed at decrepit barracks. Some T-90M*s were observed doing training in I believe Crimea.
Putin giving no retreat orders and giving outrageous demands to his commanders will likely limit their effectiveness.
*How many French optics and control systems are in the Russian tanks? I can understand why they sell these things to China, but Russia, a possible foe? French defense contractors are only slightly less mercenary than Israeli contractors.
