O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.

I'm uncomfortable with the slavish nature of the dog/human relationship. A cat's affection is earned - all you have to do to gain the affection of a dog is exist.
Slaves automatically love their masters? Is that what you’re saying?
You need to learn how to converse in good faith, my friend. You've already driven away Verb and Macphisto.

I have 2 big dogs and they provide security to my home and we never have to lock our door. They can be quite scary when they want to. Cats can't do that.

Yes, but cats don't require constant attention. Dogs are so damn needy and insecure. You were just complaining about your annoying dogs (and kids)

Well, I just don't see the point of cats at all. They're detached and don't even like people. You can play fetch with dogs, use them as security, go swimming with them. They can be fun.

You can play fetch with cats too. They're also not "detached" as a rule. Many cats are extremely affectionate

I had a cat growing up that would lay on my head and lick my face like a dog.

wait a minute...

you let your cat lick your face, likely after licking its own genitals or butthole, yet i'm the gross one for occasionally picking up my dog's dried poop to toss over the fence?
