They’re openly slaughtering children in the very last place they can. The place they told them to go to. This is a holocaust and the US is standing by handing them weapons and allowing it to continue.

Sounds like that pier plan is going well.

Replies on this are something. The speed at which we went from “Hamas does not represent ordinary Gazans” to “Hamas are the underdog heroes” is crazy, even by leftist standards:

Is it? How many bombs would Israel have to drop on YOUR friends and family before you turned on them?

At least there is honesty now and an acknowledgment that there is no difference between Gazans and Hamas and when people say they support a free Palestine what they mean is Hamas victory over Israel. Would have been easier if folks had just gone with that from the beginning instead pretending there was a “two state solution” and crying genocide while simultaneously praying for one.

I don't acknowledge that. I just met you where you were so I could point out what a shitty argument you were making.

I’m commenting on replies to that tweet.

But since Israel designed their response to October 7th to drive innocent Palestinians to the arms of Hammas while simultaneously killing all of the hostages, I find nothing you posted surprising.

It’s been over 100 years since the people of Palestine were recognized as a people with the right to self determination and promised a state. Since then the minority community of the same land got their state and half the territory, then annexed another quarter, then occupied all of it for 38 years… still no realized right to self determination. They haven’t earned it, apparently, the way others have in other countries, like this one.
It’s been asked a million times what America would do if 10/7 happened here. Maybe it’s time to ask what Americans would do if 100 years ago we were promised a state, and instead became refugees on our own land.

I believe we are looking at this tragedy from very different perspectives. This particular kid's situation is awful and should not occur. But so is the next kid's. And the next. And the next. And the next until the world stops screaming about the symptoms and deals with the disease that is Hamas and the other metastasized elements of the Islamic Republic in Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and elsewhere. So yes, I am comfortable on the bus that trades near term struggle for long term stability and prosperity, not just for Gaza but for all who suffer under the stone-age theocracies.

Bi, what are your thoughts on Israel handing authority of West Bank occupation to the Settlements Administration, which is run by a fervent supporter of expanding Israeli settlements in (and the ultimate annexation of) the occupied zone?
I ask because I think choices like that inevitably serve to nurture Palestinian (and regional) support for Hamas, and exacerbate those fears of displacement which can only lead to violent action.

Wait, Hamas is the disease?
I thought Israeli policy in Palestine was the disease, and Hamas was the symptom.

I think you can vote with a clear conscience because American support for Israel is an issue that is quite simply not left up to democratic decision making. The US will support Israel as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow. It's not an issue left up to a vote.

I have stated before and will again that I think the settlements in the Wes Bank are awful and should be removed by the Israeli army at the first opportunity. And I completely agree that behavior like that would drive support for retribution anywhere but particularly in Islamic cultures where they can bee seen as an affront to god. BUT. The world must get to a point where it is politically possible to shift Israel away from aggression and militarism, something that can only be accomplished when the have a sense of safety. It's a viscous circle but so long as the missiles fly in from Gaza in the west and Lebanon in north, leaders like Bibi will be able to maintain and expand power. So the question is who has to disarm first? The non-state terrorist groups being sponsored by foul theocratic thugs or the panicked liberal democratic country with nukes?

That's because after like 15 years of reading your posts, I can tell you that you default to a Marxist lens. So in situation like this you assign
relative power and work backwards from there to assign blame.

With relative power comes relative responsibility.

It could be because I'm only seeing American news, but it seems like there should be more anger coming from other majority Muslim countries not named Iran. Is there? If not, what is the reason?
