ive never gone close to that far. actually this had really cooled for me over the years, but this listen felt like a refresh. great song
I do think RVM has a similar ending though, and does it a bit better.

this is a song brimming with pointless energy
I love every aspect of it. The bridge is just too good.

They're similar, but I think Insignificance reaches a height that doesn't. The last minute of that song from the end of the bridge into the outro, is another one of those moments that catches a certain sound and feeling I don't think they ever found elsewhere. They definitely share some DNA, though.
They also occupy a similar spot on their records; I always felt like Insignificance and Rearviewmirror signaled the end of the first "halves" of those albums; Evolution manages to do this, as well.

Matt is indeed awesome on this album. Super heavy.

Ive never thought about which pearl jam song had eddie’s best lyrics. It could be this one

I really do not hear how Insignificance fits onto Vitalogy one bit.

grievance, like satan’s bed, is a really good song held back by the fact that I heard the definitive live version before the studio track.
I wish Eddie was just slightly more snarly on this one. a little less clenched.
this and insignificance are maybe’s Eddie’s two best political songs, although grievance is a litt substanceless
great outro

Rival is pearl jam’s most dangerous sounding song. It has this sneering lit fuse energy that captures the latent violence the lyrics warn about.
great performances all around, and stone’s best lyrics by a country mile - which is way longer than a city mile.
How will the man who made chemicals difficult shed blood
How’s our father supposed to be told

I love the studio version and i particulary love the Pinkpop 2000 version.

actually all the music is pretty solid. just dont like the lyrics or sympathize with the character. i just dont like it when pearl jam wallows, and it gives the music a melodramatic tinge it doesnt need and could have avoided with a different story
all this is exacerbated by being followed by the slightly regrettable soon forget

parting ways is such a scenic and tactile song, in really good ways.
behind her eyes there’s curtains and they’ve been closed to hide the flames is one of the best opening lyrics in the catalog
