Re: The Running Thread
Today's run sucked. Time was sub-10 minutes/mile for the first time this year, and I was actually able to sprint uphill the last quarter mile or so, but I hated every step of it. I think it was the temperature (32) that put me in a bad mood from the start.

Re: The Running Thread
Today I was a bit slower than usual. I have been using some new arch support soles for about a week or so. Starting to get shin splints again. Not sure if it's related. Also, some pain in the bottoms of my feet. It helps when I avoid the sidewalk.

Re: The Running Thread
It's starting to turn hot and humid. My runs are gonna start to suffer. I'm already feeling it. Yesterday, I did a 4.2 miler and felt like shit after. Yuck.

Re: The Running Thread
Waffling on whether or not to do an early June marathon. I feel pretty beat up right now, but I'm probably in the best running shape of my life. I'd love to finally take a break after 9 months of training, but I'd also like to tag a sub-2:50 Spring/Summer marathon, then go for 2:40 in Fall/Winter. If I take a break now, I won't have the confidence to shot for 2:40 without first going sub-2:50.

My achilles tendon is popping in my left when i stretch it? What do I do? The achilles is the big one at the very back of your heal right? It pops about 3 inches up.

Re: The Running Thread
Just printed out a form to join the local track club so I can get sweet race discounts and had a LOST-style flashback to four years ago, doing this exact same thing, getting all lathered up to run a bunch of races, before boom, knee issues, quickly followed by years of gluttony and sloth. Pray for me.

Re: The Running Thread
Week 1 stats:
Total miles:37
Best run: Thursday, 8 miles, 7:41 avg. Felt in control and felt like I could have kept the pace for at least another couple miles.
Worst run: Friday, 4 miles, 7:47 avg. It was above 70 degrees for the first time in a while and I felt sluggish and just gave up after 4.
Best avg. time: Saturday, 6 miles, 7:38.
My intentions are to just build miles here for a few weeks and then settle on a 16 week program beginning Memorial Day weekend, but I'm pretty concerned. I want to run this marathon in 3:12, but I am in terrible shape and don't know if I can get there.
R2D, any advice? I have 19 weeks. Here are the positives: I know I'm overweight at 164, so I will try to drop a pound a week. This marathon is flat and all my routes are hilly. In 5 weeks, I am on summer vacation and basically will be until tapering. I am currently as close to pain free as I have been in years.
Finally, I need a better watch. The Garmin Forerunner 10 takes minutes to find a satellite and seems to lose accuracy in tree cover. Anyone with suggestions?

Re: The Running Thread
We are in a pretty similar spot right now daft. The big difference for me is that I have to deal with the unknown of a first timer. No idea what to expect after 18 miles or so. I just want to get it done in under 4 hours which I feel like should be doable.
I have a forerunner 10 too. The back button doesn't work anymore. I've never really had much of an issue with losing satellites but it does take forever to find them. There are some really badass watches out there I could replace it with but I can't justify spending the money.
