Codex is another thing. It has soul, it has heart. Most of the album doesnt.
Give Up The Ghost has settled as my favourite from TKOL.

Lotus Flower gets a big tick from me - if for nothing more than the music vid
that video was hilarious. Thom is such a snob, it hurts.
The thing I love about it the most is that video has a choreographer credited to it.
Choreographer: Right Thom, so it's back, left, left, front, right. Got it?
Thom: Got it! {Stumble, Karate chop, Swat imaginary fly, Seizure}
Thom: How Was that?
Choreographer: .........

The first 2/3 of TKOL is among my favourite Radiohead music (Bloom through Lotus Flower) but those final three songs are total snoozers, Codex and Separator in particular.
Tons of great guitar work all over that album, I have no idea what the “no guitars” poster (whoever that was) is talking about.
Arguably best Radiohead album art too.

They use a choreographer?? What a joke.

Separator is probably a top 5 Radiohead song for me.

The only KOL song that I never really enjoyed was Little By Little; other than that, I thought the record was really good. I haven't heard much of Pablo Honey, but I'm not sure they've made a bad record yet.

i was listening to the b sides of Ok Computer that appeared in OKNOTOK, they are mostly a good example of how they decided not to try to make songs with hooks again. Sometimes i forget how different the band was before Kid A and specially in the latter years.
I miss the band that made The Bends and Ok Computer.

I think they grew into being a much better band after those records.

Maybe.
I still think Ok Computer is their best album and they knew it. The only way they could still exist as a band was to make experimental music. Most of it i like anyway...but once i hear those two, and their b sides...yeah, i miss that phase. I wish i had more music from those eras.

Agreed; I think The Bends is probably my least favorite of everything that followed Pablo Honey, though I'd imagine it's close with King of Limbs (I would use the copout that I feel like their strengths are very different, and I reach for them for very different reasons). But if I had to choose, I'd definitely take Kid A and onwards.
As an aside, I've always wondered why OK Computer is sort of grouped with those earlier records like The Bends. I know that it's probably due to the prominence of the guitar compared to something like Kid A, but in terms of songwriting and atmosphere, OKC seems way more aligned with what followed it than came before it.

Strong disagree on that from me.
VinylGuy wrote:The only way they could still exist as a band was to make experimental music.
I don’t think there’s anything terribly experimental about Kid A or anything that came after. Most of it is still at heart guitar-based rock music, just drawing upon a much broader and richer range of influences than their earlier work.

The Bends - HTTT is an incredible run, but Kid A - HTTT was their peak

for me their peak is Ok Computer. Then they have amazing ones (Kid A), very good ones (In Rainbows), Good ones (AMSP), and good songs among very boring ones (everything else).

"In Rainbows" is my favorite, with "OK Computer" close behind. Everything else is spotty IMO.
