Yep. I have queer Muslim friends and am baffled by how they reconcile that with what is in the texts. This isn't some vaguely-worded, archaic Leviticus shit; this is clearly and repeatedly outlined in the Quran.

The commonality here with similar attacks that happened in France and elsewhere is not gun laws, its ISIS related terrorism. Sullen white kids in America with its lax gun laws can't manage this kinda death toll. It is the primary issue, and just because you think gun laws are the easiest fix (it probably would help, though it would also have its own consequences), doesn't make it about that.

The FBI is now saying the dude had in the past claimed allegiance with Hezbollah and with al-Nusra, which kind of complicates the whole ISIS angle

and he apparently attempted to purchase military grade body armor. If there were stronger background checks, if the fact he was registered as suspected terrorist with the FBI, would have been brought up in a quick check....do you think this could have set of a real big fucking red flag fro the store owner to contact authorities? Could have been prevented.

One of the heads of the US gun lobby was on Irish radio today and it got heated. He did say that if the government ever 'came for people's guns, there'd be a civil war the likes of which America is not prepared for'. Before slamming down the phone on the host.
Yeah. No. I think they are prepared. 300 million firearms in the US. I think you're covered.

At this point, I don't expect any kind of gun law reform to happen. At least not in the near future. These events have happened over and over again and nothing has been done. It's not going to change now. It's not possible to throw any more outrage at the situation than we already have.

As a firearm owner, it really pisses me off when other gun owners think that changing the gun laws means "they're coming for our guns". So fucking extreme.

It's obvious that we need to ban assault rifles. Most of the hillbillies that say they'll bring about civil war if the government tries to take their guns are all talk and cowards to the core so I say we just go freaking take them.

i would love to see if there are any generational demographic divides on issues like gun control. there are urban/rural divides, but the US political system disproportionatley empowers rural areas, which is not likely to ever change

Most of the "extreme" gun-control people that I have personally encountered are either creationists (ie. they will believe anything, no matter how ridiculous, as long as it has "jesus" attached to it somehow)...or they are very obviously mentally ill...sometimes both. It's like trying to rationalise and deal with the Manson family, except there are 10 million of them. It is mass brainwashing on an unfathomable level. How can you fight that?
