Which is just crazy to me because i can't wrap my head around the idea of touring with someone and not really knowing them. But then i remind myself that they are 50 year old men and probably aren't in a van together criss crossing the nation and staying in dumpy motels anymore.

Yeah but I was a bit surprised to hear him say that. But if you think about it, Cornell hasn't lived in Seattle for a long time and they have different touring schedules and family and such. In your mind you want them all to be best buds hanging out together and passing the guitar. Like a Grunge Justice League or something. But it's just life.

I agree.

I don't. As much as we, the fans, turn to music to get us through hard times, I'm sure it's even more cathartic for someone at EV's level. Let's face it, they were good friends but it's not like one of his children died.

Something about Ed hitting the road right after the funeral and talking about his grief from the stage strikes me as...exactly something I'd expect Eddie Vedder to do.

This honestly makes me treasure the TOTD reunion tour even more, and the fact that they got to hit the road and play these songs one more time before his death. It at least brings a sense of closer to that project for them.

But yeah, if this were 1990 Mike McCready, when the Seattle scene was just kicking into high gear and he was getting his first chance to play in the studio thanks to Chris' music, I think it would be a different reaction. But time tends to push people away after awhile; life moves on.

seriously though can we get a poll who thinks during the temple of the dog reunion tour the band members drove in a van from show to show and/or stayed in a motel? maybe 2 to a room for old times sake?

i kid i kid but yah mike probably spent very little time with chris during that tour. they rehearsed, they played the shows, and that's about it. most of the down time was with their families or on a plane. most of these guys are clean/married/etc and are not partying before or after the shows at least not as a group. i guess the most bonding could happen on the plane but who wants to talk to people on a plane?

I mean he pretty much admitted that himself: "...after that and losing a few other people, I'm not good at it, meaning I'm not...I have not been willing to accept the reality and that's just how I'm dealing with it."

And I know this is a total apples and oranges comparison, but when we had to put down our family dog a few years ago (who was suddenly and rapidly deteriorating from a brain tumor and was suffering immensely), I chose to go to work that day, because I figured it'd be better to work and focus on other things and get my mind off of it. That's just how I chose to deal with the depression of that situation and the incredible sadness I was feeling.

I found out about 6am one Tuesday in 2009, that my father had died. I went to work at 7am like always. Took only the Friday off work, to travel for the funeral, hold the principle speech, and help carry the coffin. He had been sick, but had recovered from cancer and heart surgery. His somewhat sudden death was a bit of a shock to me.

Had a terribly upsetting breakup with my then wife in 2007, on a Tuesday evening. Went to work the next day, and even cried a little by myself at my desk. Didn't take a day off.

So I find what Eddie is doing perfectly normal, though I do hope he reaches out to Lily.

Same with me, last year I lost a very special person in my immediate family. The next day I went to work. I think when something terrible happens people tend to do things they have a sense of control over; like their work. Going to work is also a normal thing to do, gives a sense of distraction and normalcy when traumatic things happen. Ed had a tour booked, music is his work, it is very understandable. The loss of Chris Cornell is very upsetting to me, and I am just a music fan, I can't imagine what it's like for people who really knew him, his kids. He was just the greatest, and still is.
