A reasonable ask would be wear a mask until herd immunity. The current ask is open ended wear a mask forever. That is not reasonable, and counters everything we know about effective vaccines for other diseases. This one is novel as in new, not novel as in having an unknown mechanism of spread.

Masks don't work. And they know it.

The stupid surgical masks might make a tiny difference, but the lack of any sense of urgency of approving the manufacture of more N95s or better gave the game away. Masking is 100% social signaling theater.

We have the feedstock for all of the inputs required to make 3M half face respirators. We had a year to do so. We didn't. If this wasn't due to a lack of will, we are entirely fucked if we ever have to ramp up to wartime industry.

Even if everyone had n95 you have to throw them away after use. Letting people believe their stupid cloth masks work was the only recourse they had.

Not sure this is the case. Fomites seem to not be a thing. They lied about masks originally in an attempt to maintain the N-95 or equivalent supply. They never discriminated between the two for a similar reason.

If you doff an N-95, it doesn't seem likely that you'd immediately inhale a ton of viable virus.

Eh, I could be wrong. The CDC isn't saying fomites specifically but does have language about contaminated hands. It is the CDC though, so they may be full of shit for messaging reasons.

Got together with some family for mother's day today. Nobody was masked and I don't even recall covid getting mentioned.
