Yeah, it's a pretty solid thriller.

I just wish the director had even a small amount of visual proficiency.

I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Hmm, I thought he did really well with his wife shots. All the natural scenery seemed really well balanced and framed the action nicely. But I guess some of the tighter stuff left something to be desired.
It's an okay movie, but the cinematography and lighting are utterly sterile and lifeless, and there is no sensuality in the camerawork. It's a prosaic movie. Clearly the work of a writer, not a filmmaker. Which is a shame, because the dialogue and cast are great.

Some really lovely shots in Bone Tomahawk, its sparseness and grit befitting the story. 'Prosaic' is wrong.

I totally agree about the lack of sensuality. I actually liked the cinematography and lighting -- looked sort of dusty and old. Come to think of it, I think we had a similar disagreement about Hateful 8. I might just be a sucker for films with old-looking mountain shots. Always reminds me of childhood summers in Idaho.
When will you be doing Sharing Cinematic Values?
