It's a known fact that PTA was on-hand as AD, and that Altman would basically direct PTA via walkie talkies. The persistent rumor is that PTA went beyond typical AD duties, and was basically driving the performances as well as some of the technical stuff. I've watched the film a few times, and I swear I can see both directors' influences. But I'm not really sure, I may just be telling myself I see PTA's hand when it's all Altman.
Yeah I've heard that. I know Altman wasn't well during filming. But I think the movie is still thoroughly Atlman.
