Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I feel like I could copy and paste that blog entry and replace "my dissertation" for The Winds of Winter, and nothing would change.

Who are your top ten favorite characters?

There's a thread for that on westeros.org and without giving it too much thought I came up with (in no particular order):

Sandor Clegane

Davos Seaworth

Arya Stark

Barristan Selmy

Bran Stark

Robb Stark

Victarion Greyjoy

Jon Snow

Tyrion Lannister

Daenerys Targaryen

I could see myself dropping Robb maybe to make room for either Wyman Manderly or Doran Martell.

I know I'm not the first to say this and I've never really given it much consideration, but I'm thinking about it now because I've been reading the dunk and egg tales and now I'm perusing the World of Ice and Fire chapters from that same time period, but does anyone think Aegon is a Blackfyre?

I mean he has the Golden Company at his back now which is a hint towards that, but I've never really bought into it despite that.

They talk a bit in WOIAF about many people looking across the narrow sea to the Blackfyres during Aerys I's reign with the drought and the aftermath of the Spring Sickness and distrust of Bloodraven, et al. And that has me thinking of people looking across the sea now for Dany's return. So if the dragon has three heads could it be Dany/(F)Aegon/Jon?

If R+L=J they're all blood of the dragon, and a joining of Targ/Blackfyr could parallel a joining of Stark/Snow if Jon's parentage is confirmed and he's legitimized.

Sorry this is such a stream of conscious type post.

I just got through the first chapter of "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", so I should have more input later, but I am really loving how it seems 'not really but just barely' connected to the ASOIAF timeline wise. Aside from the obvious connections (major Houses, geography) the mentions of Aemon was a fun geek out moment.

Would an asoiaf character tournament be fun or is that too aughties?

Yeah, the only people alive in both Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and A Song of Ice and Fire are Aemon Targaryen and Bloodraven.

Should it be like a 64 person march madness type battle? Random seeding?

Or... Snake style draft some teams and then do some matchups?
