I wonder if the gradual decline of radio as anything other than a top 40 format will lead away from the loudness.

I really hope so. I've actually noticed this trend in movies also - all the sound effects and music drown out dialogue. I have to really concentrate in some movies/theatres to hear the dialogue. But darn if its not loud!

me too. The first half is the pearl jam I accept.
I'm the exact opposite. I enjoyed it, but could do without the 2nd half wankfest. It would be cool if they ever mixed it up, but their extended jams have sounded the same for the past 10+ years.

The first half was fantastic. Catchy, soaring, and clever.

The studio version will fix this song. I think it has potential to be a 5 star song.

*shit I just realized I'm not in the Lightning Bolt thread. Let me re-read and see if this still applies to Let It Ride.

Ya Let it Ride shines in the 2nd half for sure. I'm retarded.

Do we have lyrics for these songs yet? I assume they are in this thread somewhere, I'm terrible at figuring them out.

Listening to the S/T demos reminds me how much I really liked the leaked S/T album, prior to the fade-outs, compression, etc. I remember cranking it in the car with the windows down and thinking it was great. Then it came out and I liked it, but felt it was too polished and 'peppy' rather than raw.

It's a good album that suffers from poor production. Same with Binaural, they should have left well enough alone, trusted Tchad, and kept the binaural recordings and other songs; Riot Act was decent as well, produced well enough; BS was BO'B being poppy and B.S., produced horribly.

Give me a live, off-the-floor, raw record, all these new/'new' songs would sound brilliant if recorded and left raw, even Future Days. I liked it better when they fought BO'B in the early days, now they trust him for radio play, they don't need that, they have us crazies that spend our days on this, talking about that, and travelling the world to see a band we still somehow love, even if the live shows are slowly succumbing to the same plight of their albums--too polished.

"Lightning bolt, lightning bolt, lightning bolt."

"There was no Christ, there was no cross, just forgiveness, allowed himself, accepted the past, then set it free, oh and it ran off like an animal with ease."

We should probably stop referring to these (and the S/T leak) as "demos". it sounds like they're just unmastered studio tracks.

I remember that leak, wasn't there a Mike solo on "Marker in the Sand" instead of boom's organ?

Also, I have another therory...since the Ten Club cd for "Lightning Bolt" cost $21.00 with the shipping of $8.00 included in that, isn't that a lot of for a shipping charge? Since it is, maybe fanclub members are getting that EP Mike talked about with 6-8 b-sides along with LB? That's why these songs some how showed up now after all these years on the shelf? One can hope with songs like these 2.

Yeah, probably not.

They're not going to release an EP with better songs than the album at this point.

Gotta agree with that. Everything, including single stickers, costs $8.01 S&H from the Ten Club. There is apparently variable cost based on the location they're shipping to, but not based on weight of the product.

consider the options in the poll within this thread and make this statement again.

I'm almost back to thinking it could be a double album. Why do they not have the tracklist out? Are they possibly working the order out over the span of 2 discs? The price thing is really interesting and possibly telling.

No, I don't mean that they don't have better songs than the album, I mean that they won't release this EP because the songs will be so good, it'll take the shine off this Lightning Bolt they're trying to flog.

folks, i guessed this during the countdown:

the shtick is to get you to pay them to work on the new album. it was only half-way done and they'd burned their cash on brazilian hookers trying to keep up w/ josh homme. so they need us fools to pay them for something before we'd even seen what it was.

They have 3 months until release. They wanted to have an album announcement to go with the tour. They want the record to be released around the start of the tour. They have 3 months to fill in between. We will get the track list during a lull.

After a few more listens...wow, these two tunes are soooo much better than anything I've heard on Lightning Bolt. This makes no sense.

Are these tunes well received by the S/T Backspacer haters? Just curious, what's the consensus?
