People here do not love it! Doug watched it and said it was utterly forgettable. I thought that was a little harsh. Coda is a fine film. It's a bit formulaic but the performances are good. Basically it's the kind of movie that will make almost anyone tear up, but in a way where you're like "ah fuck, you got me, I'm being manipulated." It was a significantly less interesting depiction of deafness than Sound of Metal, and while I thought it was better than a few of the clunkier BP noms like Nightmare Alley, the idea that it was better than something like Power of the Dog is just absurd. It's not as bad of a selection as Crash but it's one of those Oscar winners folks will look back on in a few decades and think "that movie?!"Anders wrote:What is wrong with it winning?
