We're still at the start of the game, 96. Increasing resource deplenishment mixed with opportunity disparity will only exponentiate global violence crises. Worldwide, Western culture will be the fall guy. Locally, it will be the front line. I will just be happy if the next 40 years don't lead to total annihilation as various societies, some of whom have nothing to lose and some of whom have everything, fight over a changing landscape.

A cop pulled out in front of my friends dad last night, who was on his motorcycle with helmet approaching the squad car eastbound. The cop inexplicably turned left right in front of him. He's on paid leave. Gotta think he was texting or on his computer. No excuse for the accident as it is a very clear stretch of 55mph highway.

My friends dad was a really great guy and now he's dead.

That's sad, and wasteful. Sorry.

I have to (tactlessly) confess to equating riding a motorcycle with having a death wish, though.

The Illinois State Police have to conduct the crash investigation. I can't imagine there won't be consequences for the officer if his negligence as a driver led to someone's death.

It's funny because now that I'm 32 I've been thinking more about my parents getting older and mortality in general. My girlfriend always talks about moving someplace warm and I typically counter with: so you're cool with seeing your family a fixed number of times for the rest of their lives on holidays or something? I can't imagine just so abruptly losing someone so close and I feel awful for my friend.

And yeah, I talked to my dad today and told him Im glad he's never had a motorcycle.

I love my family but weekly phone calls sound excessive.
