That was a really bad video, John looks like a fool.

I thought the stuff where they combine the 1967 footage with the 1994/2023 footage was pretty cool, and they needed to show goofy John to balance the heaviness.
My main problem with the video is the cheesy and cheap looking montages in between that stuff. It's a sharp contrast, like two different people made a video and then they cut back and forth between the two.
It's very bizarre, but indicative of Beatles vault releases for the last 30 years. Amazing technological advances that sucker people in, but with a poor execution lacking in real taste that nobody really notices anyway because they are too busy spooging and forking over their cash.

This is where I came down on it, too. After listening to it once, I was humming it for the rest of the day, so it’s definitely got the same DNA as any other Beatles earworm. The story of the recording is interesting but actually not that unique, as countless artists have had posthumous releases finished off and polished by colleagues and friends, this just happened to take longer (and involved one of the most popular bands in the history of music).
But, yeah, the video immediately put me off. I just had an icky feeling throughout. Hard to put my finger on, but I guess I just don’t feel like bringing John and George back to life really adds anything. They’re dead; let their music do the talking.

It’s old footage of them. Would have been awful if they didn’t include them in the video.

A montage is fine, but putting them in with the two who are still alive feels like a cheap trick.

I like the concept of using old footage of John and George w/ the recent video of Paul and Ringo but I would have preferred more serious shots of John and George.
Lennon’s demo is beautiful, thanks for posting.

Now that I think about it, let me clarify:
Technologically the Lennon/Harrison additions were impressive, but in bad taste generally.
The montages were a good idea but look like they were put together by a mentally challenged person with Video Toaster.
One well-done bad idea and another poorly-done good idea - that cut back and forth.
Marketed with massive amounts of hype, received with fervor and reviewed with emotional hyperbole.
So basically, it's more than fitting for a modern Beatles product.
