my favorite scenes:
- The Wes Anderson directed tracking shot
- Jon telling the Thenn "Stop! Hammer Time!"
- Wildlings lined up yelling at the Wall, a few guys take arrows, everyone takes a few steps back out of arrow range and starts yelling again

It wasn't cheesy, but it had nothing on the Blackwater episode. The actors portraying the Wildlings seemed a bit comicbookish and it took me out of a lot of the scenes. And Kit is so short, I have a hard time buying him as a great swordsman. I did enjoy the Ygritte POV shots during the battle, kinda of a cool concept, though there is a different type of POV shot I would prefer when it comes to her. ;)

Spoiler: show
porn

There were some great moments. I was a tad underwhelmed, but I think that stems from the fact that the story at The Wall essentially revolves completely around Jon, who is a pretty dull character and actor (the Dany story is similar, in that it all lives or dies based on our investment in her). We also didn't spend enough time with these people to make me care enough - I had no real idea who the killed minor watch guys were, and Ygritte's been doing nothing all season but kill helpless people in little villages, so her death didn't exactly stir the heartstrings.

Though she certainly stirs something.

Amirite?

I liked the episode too, thought it was a better than average action sequence. The mammoth was fairly impressive CGI; more so than the giants. But I would have liked to have seen more of the giant & the six inside the gate.
What tracking shot are you refering to? I didn't catch that there was one.
There's probably an online quiz along the lines of "Is this character name from Game of Thrones or the Star Wars prequels". If not there should be.

So with that out of the way the season finale next week will no doubt focus on Tyrion

The finale's going to be 66 minutes, apparently. Nice long time to wrap up Tyrion AND hopefully actually give us a satisfying conclusion to this battle instead of Jon Snow wandering off for a ramble.

And something about Bran making friends with a bird.

yeah, at least blackwater had a conclusion. this was a whole episode devoted to just one night of wilding attacks, there will be more.

The giants weren't cgi; they were costumed and shot from perspective like lotr did. Probably why you only see 2
