That makes sense to me. It also aligns with the pre-release rollout that most bands do now.
this does make a lot of sense. Dance is a fire flame (top icon). Wolfblood is the lower left (looks like a tooth). what's the bottom right then? something split - what could that be? great escape? when you leave you "split". am i overthinking it?

Some variety on the new album #gigaton says Stone, some really straight ahead rock songs and some spare and simple ballads. DOTC is ‘on the outer edge of something we’ve not tried before’. The album is ‘really us’.

So, it sounds like a Pearl Jam album with DotC as the outlier fwiw.
Where can we listen to that interview? Zane has a show on Beats 1 but this didn’t come up when I searched it.
Welp, better enjoy this while it lasts then before we get another lightning bolt
yeah i hate that generic description. wish he would have said "it's totally outside our wheelhouse but we brought it all home in a concept album about the world melting."

would that have been so hard?

Listening to the Stone interview now:

- Up and down recording but had a good time recording it. After they were done were proud of what they had accomplished.
- DOTC is the outer edge of something they haven't tried before. Definitely some straight ahead rock songs, some very spare and simple ballads. They did it by themselves. There was a pile of songs and in the last two months Ed mixed and selected the tracks and he did a great job of bringing everyone's personalities out. It was probably different than anything each of them individually would have made.
- Stone said it took 3 years for them to make the album. They're a slow moving creature and that's okay. The record will differentiate itself more by a little bit more time.
- He didn't want to speak too much on the lyrics because his interpretation is different than others, but he says the lyrics are "stunning". He's not saying anything in plain language but his mysticism and his way of using words and art and music is a powerful tonic. Underlying it all is continuing to be hopeful but at times there's a tragic message.
- It's great to be launching something.

Not a huge interview. Stone did sound genuinely excited about everything and said he wants to talk more once everyone hears it. Honestly Stone and Jeff being at the forefront of this marketing campaign says a lot to me.

DOTC is good but the album will still likely suck.

I'll try not to interpret Stone's comment as "well, I would've picked different songs but Ed did a good job - you know, more or less."

But for real, Stone sounded legit excited. Been a long time since I’d heard him talk with that much enthusiasm.

If they truly recorded two or more albums worth of material over the past few years it makes sense to curate them somehow.

It was a National Radio show and he only had a few minutes to talk really. Maybe with other places they’ll go into more detail when there’s more time. They’re a few British dudes and Stone was facetiming them.

The interview literally started with Stone yelling “HELLO?!?” like a grandpa.

funny. i have the opposite outlook. here's to hoping this is the You Are of the album and the rest is actual rock music from a rock band.

I used to post here in the mid-00s, and this board was super important to how I discovered new music throughout that decade. I don't think I posted at all in the 2010s though, so it's great to be sufficiently excited by something that the band has released that I want to post again. I know this just echoes what so many other have said, but I really didn't think the band had anything as out of their comfort zone as DOTC left in them.

Stone's comments about the rest of Gigaton have me a bit worried, but I'm hoping that we're supposed to interpret his quote as three things (some variety, some straightforward rockers, and some ballads) rather than two (variety consisting of straightforward rockers and ballads). Somehow it doesn't make sense to me that the band would realize that it's a good idea to keep "Can't Deny Me" off the album and also realize that DOTC is a compelling first single, but then go ahead and fill the rest of the album with generic short punkish rock songs anyway.
