Well, goddamn thats how you shoot a movie. Even if the end was a little too much, i loved the ride. David Mackenzie sure know how to do a compelling movie, i was a big fan of Starred Up, and this one is better.
Chris Pine is a fuckin star....and Jeff Bridges? Man.![]()

Yep, pretty cool movie. The sound is shit so you might need subtitles, but it's definitely not boring.Strat wrote:Anyone watch "Upstream Color" ?

Re: What movies are you watching?
Two things:
My wife had the clicker on Sunday afternoon so we watched Pretty Woman. Always something to see George Costanza try to rape somebody.
They've also started playing poor-ass Christmas movies on The Hallmark Channel, so that's on in our house 6 hours a day now. In July I reviewed a bunch of these movies so I may as well just started it up again:
Cookie Town (I think? Honestly, I walked in the room 20 minutes after it started, and the name didn't really come up in conversation): A high-powered business women goes to a town named Cookie Jar in order to buy out the local cookie factory that only sells very popular Christmas cookies. The new owner is a handsome young man (no shit!) who inherited the factory from his Aunt, and he doesn't want to sell, because the food conglomerate that the woman works for wants to give all of the employees severance and move the plant to Buffalo (Hi, mecca!). But he's basically run the business into the ground so he's got no choice, but he convinces the woman to stay a few days (up until Christmas Eve) to try and come up with a better deal. She falls in love with him after sledding, tree lighting, judging a gingerbread house contest, and building a snowman, and they're about to kiss when--in the greatest scene in cinematic history--the lead actress's beard arrives (his name is Gavin and he introduces himself as her "significant other"; he's also obsessed with showing him off to his partners at his law firm to prove...something) and fucking proposes to her in front of cookie guy. Some misunderstandings ensue, her boss shows up, and cookie guy is so broken up that he sells the company. But the next day at the annual Christmas Eve dance, the lead comes up with some cockamamy explanation for why the cookie factory cannot be sold, something to do with an assembly line. Her boss is impressed with her moxie and rips up the contract (which, as my wife points out, does not get rid of its legal viability), allowing her to stay in the town to run the factory, so everybody keeps their jobs and she gets to be with cookie guy.
I didn't even mention that the lead has a sister who shows up at the very end who is clearly autistic. This is probably the 3rd or 4th of these movies that follows the general plot of: successful businesswoman needs a handsome man to convince her that her career isn't everything and that not being so involved with her work, loving Christmas, and also sucking his dick will make her a better person. It is a troublesome vein, and we'll see if it continues in the other ones we watch. There's still over a month of this shit to go.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
