Stip, incredible write up - read it as I listened to the album for the whoknowshowmanyeth time in the last few days...

"It is the first time Pearl Jam has written a song that you could plausibly imagine replacing Alive to close in a set. " - I really hope when they play this live they come out of that drum outro and jam some to keep the song going.

Came for Dark Matter, stayed for Stips write up.

Stip - incredible write up. I barely post but have been a long time lurker of the board (in its previous life) and have always loved your write ups.

I love how many people have been moved by this album. For themes and lyrics that seem so personal and make the subject feel soo alone at times, to hearing just how many people relate to the lyrics is incredible.

It's been said before and will be said again but this album is amazing. It really brought out the best of Pearl Jam and the best of all of us.

Listening to Waiting for Stevie the first time gave me the feeling I got when they debuted Animal on MTV. This is my band. I'm trying not to wear this thing out by over-listening, but it's a losing battle.

Thanks for the great analysis Stip. Your line at the end "Until their voice isn’t needed because we have joined in" really hit me.

I'm going to get gushy but whatever...

I love having a place like this where this collection of random people who for the most part don't know each other beyond words and avatars on a computer screen can engage in something that's captured our hearts and minds like this music has for all these years. None of us are alone in the feelings this band has drawn out of us and that's at the heart of DM and what Pearl Jam has always been really.

I was more excited for stips write up about this than the thing itself.

Someone mentioned about emotional responses and I felt compelled to share one I had on my last listen to Setting Sun. Long story short my father passed away young in the early 90s and Release was a big connecting point for me with Pearl Jam and dealing with that loss.

Fast forward to Setting Sun and I have a daughter getting ready to leave for college this Fall--our only kid-- and she is a wonderful person, and thinking of my Dad because he never met her and I just had this emotion with that lyric "if you could see what I see now, you'd find a way to stay somehow" and it just was this moment Pearl Jam or much of anything has not caused in a very long time.

I don't hear much of Seven O Clock in Wreckage. Not a fan of seven of clock but absolutely love Wreckage.

Wreckage is a Pearl Jam ballad done right. I hear Daughter, Light Years, Corduroy and Wishlist in there.

No Seven O Clock word salad thankfully. Eddie rectified everything I didn't like about Gigaton.
