Yeah, "The Decline" is obviously their most impressive song. I always really loved an old outtake of theirs called "We Threw Gasoline on the Fire and Now We Have Stumps for Arms and No Eyebrows." But if you're allergic to the 90s skate-punk sound you're not gonna like either of them. "Gasoline on the Fire" especially is pure buttfuck-tittyfuck power-chord pop-punk

The last album of theirs I was super into was Heavy Petting Zoo. Valuum had some cool songs but was quite patchy overall. I stopped caring after that.
And yeah, Fat Mike seems like a d bag. I will always remember the story he told about his room mate hanging himself and he and his other buddy picking through his record collection before even alerting anyone.

The main difference is that I was smart enough to quit the band and block the Aaron Hernandez/Roseanne/Captain Beefheart figure as soon as the "I'm the leader of this here band now and I'll write incoherent fragments and you'll do all the work making them good songs and then I'll be unsatisfied and blame you for ruining my music" thing and the obnoxious paranoia about covid and the embarrassing PR incidents and the phone calls and abusive texts at the 3 in the morning started to become a thing. Other band members make excuses, but they'll learn their lesson after you're gone. Sure, your name will be removed from the album credits even though you did 90% of the work, but you won't want them on there anyway. So it's a big win.

There's this amazing Irish bar in my neighborhood. We popped in last night for a pint. While we were there a woman came in and pulled the bartender aside to speak privately. Of course we were at the end of the bar where they talked.
The woman said she was working for a band that was playing the Paramount theatre that night, the band were from Dublin, and they wanted to come into the bar after the show, but she wanted to make sure that was cool with the bar.
That band was Fontaines DC
Pretty rad that they had the courtesy to ask the bar before just descending in the place. Cuz it ain't a big spot. Made me like the band even more.
