I like Fallout a lot, but prefer Ghost Protocol for the recent ones

MI3 will always win because of PSH. His opening scene in that is the best
MI3 scene with Tom coming to rescue Russell is amazing. And Hoffman owns that movie. After the mess of the second one, it was amazing to see the franchise going that route.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Wrong wrong wrong. There is so much soul in GP. There are stakes, there is weight, there is something real between characters. And the action is so much better, and feels rough and dangerous.

yeah, i agree with that after a recent view. It also looks kinda bland. I saw it on IMAX when it came out and loved it, and i thought it lost its charm recently....maybe because the last two are in a different level not only story wise but specially in the way they are shot.

McQuarrie should have stuck to the Jack Reacher franchise

The first Reacher movie is another masterpiece. A slow burning tense thriller with Cruise in a very different role and mood. Dark, violent and intense.
He is so talented he can do these movies and then make history with the MI movies.

Fuck, his debut is another masterpiece.

Jack Reacher is a perfect movie. It’s totally right for McQuarrie’s sensibilities.

Just makes his MI movies all the more frustrating for me. I think his talent is being wasted because he’s being forced into neutering himself to be “Mission.” He’s been quite open about this in interviews.

That first Jack Reacher movie is pretty good, but Tom Cruise makes an awful Jack Reacher

He will be writing and then filming 7 and 8 back to back beginning late this year.

I never understand what's happening in any of these movies, but I enjoy them nonetheless.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

The first one is the only great one. The rest are fun action movies.

Funny.

Im finally watching Fallout.

30 minutes into it and .....ugh.

Maybe im old? I dont know. I can still find enjoyment here. Im not above that.

BUt it just feels like a bunch of high octane action sequences, bad dialogue, magic tricks, and sexy people.

The first one felt like chess. The rest have felt like Checkers.

Yeah, they changed the tone from the first one. I would say that comes back a bit in Rogue Nation.

I rewatched Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, and Fallout this week. I had them all logged as B+'s in my original watch. GP and RN were worse than I remember; Fallout was better than I remember.

I know the whole point of the franchise, at this point, is to up the ante on stuntwork (which IS amazing) but the sloppiness of the plotting keeps them from being truly great movies. MI1 is no work of genius but there was an intellect to it they've never been able to (or cared to) match since.

An intellect? Did you include 1 in your rewatch? It is a very, very stupid movie. It's just quieter

I just rewatched it tonight. I wouldn’t call it stupid but definitely not as good as I remember.

The score slaps, though.

tragabigzanda wrote:Rewatchables just did Fallout this week. Their nitpicks category was great, but my favorite one was how Ethan Hunt always saves the world, then in the next movie they’re like “No! We won’t let you do things your way anymore! You’re on a VERY short leash for this mission!“
Yeah, that trope’s gotta go for Dead Reckoning. Tiresome.

What are the main aspects that make you say it's very, very stupid?
And they say that a hero could save us
