Beach Boys - Pet Sounds.
I had the exact same experience as Joostone.
Pet Sounds is not the first album that comes to mind. I was thinking more of that lounge nightclub music. The type of lounge music that Leonard Cohen did in the eightties. Or the one that Gainsbourg build his career on. I think I can call it 'ladiesman lounge'

Agreed.
As an album its kind of interesting but essentially "is that it" is the overall feeling I have.
I like the first 6 songs but struggle from then on.
