I understand that Oregon and Washington are at high risk of wind fed wildfires today. Are these wildfires with somewhat natural starts?
Santa Rosa in California seems to get portions burnt every year, but I take it that this is unusual for Medford.
I dont think the causes have been determined. This wind storm is crazy, and no rain in sight for weeks.
Having never lived in an area prone to forest fires before now, I can't tell if its normal, but we've had them about half of the years I've lived here.

No rain in sight for weeks? Most parts of (populated) fire prone California won't get rain until early November.
Welcome to the West Coast, I guess. I thought Washington and Oregon still had something of a logging industry to thin out the dead trees, not that logging is sufficient for forestry management..

The LA Times wildfire stats tracker and map is helpful.

It really doesn't look safe to breath in 80%+ of the west coast.
Those images are horrifying. None of this really computes to me.
