It’s actually not that big. There are size comparisons on some media sites out there.

I doubt we get prices until E3 but I’m also surprised they announced it already.

My guess?

$500 for the Series X

$350-$400 for the lower tier Series "S" model.

I bet they'll throw in a free 3 month trial for the Gamers Pass Gold too.

What do we think the launch price of the PS5 will be? $499?

Happy to see it can sit horizontally or vertically. But still, I can see that not fitting in a lot of entertainment centers.
Will probably buy this.

I think it will be sold at a loss at $399. Xbox Series X will be $499 but with a less powerful version at $349 or $399.

I'm planning to break the bank and get the most powerful, outrageously expensive version of the PS5 that will be available....although I'm thinking there may just be one version at the initial release date for ~$499 as others have said. Rumor has it we'll see an 'official' unveiling in February with pre orders to follow shortly thereafter.

If I remember correctly, pre-orders for the PS4 went live right after their E3 press conference. I wonder if this year will follow a similar timeline. I think Sony will release one version and they will try their best to be $399.

M_D what are these rumours I'm hearing about different levels of PS+? Are they going to just bundle it with PS Now at a special rate, or are they really going to give you better or more monthly games for a higher price?

Sony's been very quiet about the details of backwards compatibility and services associated with the PS5.

My guess?

- Full backwards compability with PS4 games (both physical and digital store purchases). This will be announced at E3 and will be available immediately when the PS5 releases. PS4 games will run on an "ultra" graphics setting with no patch required.
- A competitor to Game Pass will be announced. It will essentially be a rebranded PS Now. You will be able to purchase it separately or as an add on to the standard PS Plus.
- I think there will be more services announced involving PS One and PS2 games but I'm not sure how it will work.

I've been skeptical of the rumors/leaks/speculation that it'll be backwards compatible for PS1, 2, 3, and 4--I think that's wishful thinking on most people's part. Still will probably upgrade after the first price drop.

Mark Cerny already confirmed in a Wired piece it would be backwards compatible with PS4 games. I think several previous generations games will be accessible via the new PS Now.

Will you guys buy a Playstation over an Xbox no matter what happens?

Probably. I just like their exclusives way more. Microsoft has made some really savvy studio acquisitions as of late, but with no games to speak of yet.

Basically the same here; I originally got a PS3 for the same reason, which was specifically to play The Show. Then when I had PS+ continuously for a few years, it only made sense to get a PS4 with so many games in my account (it was also free through my company's rewards program). Same thing is going to happen between the PS5's release and when I want to upgrade.

I get that. I had the PSX1 and 2. But feel very tied to the Xbox now. With backwards compatibility, and lots of downloaded games on my current machine, online membership and game pass for the next two years paid. Will be difficult to change.

Yeah. The backlog just grows and grows. Then you feel locked in.

At this point, it's not even a question of affording both consoles, it's just the available time to play one. Better to pick one and focus on that catalog.
