Man, Children of Children is owning me right now. Those lyrics...

I'll allow it.

Good mix, Joe. I’m familiar with Nashville Sound and Southeastern though I wasn’t hugely taken by Southeastern. Some tasty stuff in there and it’ll serve me to delve deeper.

Thanks. I think it's s great intro mix. If you're more of an album guy, I'd strongly recommend Something More Than free. It seems like we have similar tastes in Isbell music and I think that one is second only to Nashville Sound.

Nothing from his first solo album? Dress Blues, In a Razor Town, and The Magician or GTFO!

Through those Alabama pines...also conspicuously absent from your list.

So which four songs would you remove from my playlist to make room for your GTFO tracks?

After revisiting that first solo record, I have to say it's a pretty minor effort compared to his later output. There are some strong songs on it, but In a Razor Town is the only one I'd consider trying to work into my mix. I think every other song I've included is much stronger.

Jason Isbell ranked:
1. The Nashville Sound
2. Something More Than Free
3. Here We Rest
4. Southeastern
5. Sirens of the Ditch
I have not listened to Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit yet.
#1 and #2 on that list are fucking brilliant records, front to back. #3 is really good with a couple of less-than tracks. #4 is half and half. #5 is fine but does not hold up to the others.

If we include songs of his from Drive By Truckers, Goddamn Lonely Love and Danko/Manuel are hard to beat. I'd also throw Cover Me Up on any mixtape, possibly leaning towards a live version.

Admittedly, I've heard none of those bands....

Danko/Manuel is a highlight of this century of music. Yeah.

That's a sweet playlist but I'd probably add Cover Me Up, The Magician, and Dress Blues, and remove How To Forget, Never Could Believe, and Anxiety.
If you enjoy Isbell definitely check out Drive-By Truckers' Decoration Day and The Dirty South. 6 of his best songs on those two...

I'm definitely gonna dive into DBT.
I thought about cutting Never Could Believe. That's still the one I'm not sure about on the mix. I could never cut How To Forget or Anxiety though. Those songs mean a lot to me.
Cover Me Up is a good call.
