The opening jam sounded so cool, like the ending jam of Daughter. Then it goes into the Ed cringe fest. The chorus is quite damn nice, but it's not worth the price of admission for those fucking verses.
Ed should have sang on top of that opening jam instead, could have grooved on that and led into the chorus and back into the jam. The verses kill this song or me.
Agree with this
Also agree it doesn’t sound like Springsteen at all

Uh, your point?
that it sounds exactly like Bruce Springsteen
Uh.......if you say so buddy

The guitar tones and effects scream Pink Floyd, particularly in the chorus.

The paralelism with Bruce is obvious in this one, I don't think it can be argued.

Ms Harmless wrote:the verses are absolutely the prettiest highlight of this song and what's supposed to be its climax is underwritten, so that's frustrating
but I'll live with it, because those verses are worth the price of admission
heh, other way around for me. I find the chorus enjoyable and the outro decent if cheesy. I just can't stand the verses.

It's odd. I like this song, but I cannot remember how the music goes when I'm not listening (same is true of never destination, retrograde, and take the long way). I do remember the vocal melody

Springsteen would NEVER haphazardly throw his voice around a verse like Eddie does here

I like this more with each listen. The chorus does not veer into cheese territory for me and I think Ed sounds about as good as he can on this.

If I didn't know who was singing the verses before that first chorus section, I would have guessed Bruce immediately.

It’s probably been said but it’s very REM-y. Not a bad thing. Sort of that somber but kinda meandering and happy vibe going on.
