yes it is!

I appreciate the whole thing and I think it would be easier to take as a minor sparkly little gem if we hadn't been fatigued by Lightning Bolt

I like the whole song. But that ending is amazing.

Sirens is much better than this song IMO. I don't really see the comparison that much. I agree that Sirens is more bombastic, but I think Retrogade being less bombastic just makes it more boring.

So far Take the Long Way and Retrogade are probably my least favorite songs on the album.

I love Sirens, and I also love Sirens' quieter little sister :)

Ok, the ending minute or two is awesome, but the song doesn't accurately build to it. So it's the opposite of Seven o Clock. On Seven O Clock the verses were great and then the ending is just a noisy mess. On this one the ending minute or two is really soaring and powerful but the leadup to it isn't very cohesive.

Still think Sirens is much better because Sirens feels more complete and well formed.

I really like how starkly different the second half jam is to the first half, tbh; I like the fact that "it could be thunder or a crowd" signals the take off

I also like how it returns to an earlier chord structure and jams with it

I like these things as well. The first half has some things to offer, as well.

I love that lyric too

You guys are way too hard on this. It's amazing. Kind of heartbreaking too. I listen to it and feel like I'm saying goodbye to someone or something I loved but never really appreciated. The outro sounds like the band is playing at the edge of a enormous cliff at the edge of the ocean and Ed is singing into the abyss...

Nice description. This one was at the bottom of my rankings (still liked it very much) but is quickly moving up.

The only part I don't like is the "stars align" line. The main gtr riff reminds me of let me sleep and the outro is the best wall of sound moment on the album. Considering this is one of the weaker tracks, that's how strong this album is.

Sounds like it could be the Soundtrack to a modern disney movie. The main character finally finding their true purpose and belting FEEEL THE SOUUUND

it's pretty great that PJ can do that as well as anything else they do

It's Speed of sound, but good.

Give this 4 stars. The ending is clearly the best part, one of the high points on the album. Don't mind the rest of the song either but it would probably be a 3-3.5 without the last minute or so.

What the hell am I missing here ? Maybe I need to pay attention to the lyrics ?

Why does it not suck then?
