kinda weird to think her job was only dressing fancy and showing up at formal events.

She had been the monarch since my parents were toddlers; by any measure, a significant public figure and a reassuringly steadfast presence through the many changes during our collective lifetimes.

Of course she was now very elderly, but it is still very sad to see her finally at rest.
