i would imagine matt cameron requested lesser songs b/c he's doing the hardest work in the band, but I wish they didn't cut covers out. i'd much rather hear baba o'riley than jeremy.

But they used to play way more songs on a 2 hour show. They played at least 27 songs on a 2 hour show in 2000 or 2010. Now they play about 20.
But in a way I can understand this. They could not tour for 4 years. And on their first tour since, half of the band got covid and they had to improvise and cancel shows. They just want this EU tour to go well and are not taking any chances. The longer shows or more setlist variation will come back Im sure..
Only feel bad for Klinghoffer.. They basically brought him on tour for the Gigaton songs and they only play 3 of those..

This is a fair point. The stats don't capture all of Ed's blathering that is chewing up the stage time. BUT, not a song was scratched in Italy and that was only 23 headlining in front of 65k and on the same night
80 y.o. Paul McCartney played 38.
Beatles songs average about 2:02
So do PJ songs with Matt on the kit

Having just seen McCartney, yes 38-40 songs but al
also the show in NJ was definitely 3 hours with some babbling but not that much.

Don't get mad because they are skipping Seattle on the farewell tour. You've still got that residency at the Key Arena to look forward to.

Matt was pretty open in that recent Rolling Stone piece about how playing high energy rock music for hours a night becomes an increasingly tough gig for a drummer as you get older, especially into your 50s.
McCartney's songs aren't quite as physically demanding on the whole - and his drummer is 9 years younger than Matt.
Whatever the reason, I'm really pleased the shorter sets with fewer covers have stuck around.

It’s odd they’ve cut the mid tempo/ acoustic stuff though. They could play “no more”etc

i think my only complaint would be the songs that seem to be staples. i'd be fine if they stopped playing jeremy. why go is great, but there are 20 other songs with the same feel that could be played early in a setlist. with that said, i hope they play porch and given to fly at every show i ever go to.

I’d be ok with never having Given to Fly at a show ever again.

Of the 12 staples I'd be happy if they just rotated 4-5 into their shows.
Alive/Even Flow
Porch/RVM
Betterman/Corduroy
Small Town/Given To Fly
Black/Wishlist
Go, Animal and DtE are the exceptions and should be played at every show.

They’re contractually obligated to play Why Go due to the tie in with that Uber movie starring the kid from third rock who goes by three names.

There’s a new Matt interview up on YT with Rick Beato. He mentions hitting the point of exhaustion and looking down and seeing 6 songs left. I’m sure that’s part of the reason for shorter sets.

Going to have to grit my teeth and put up with Rick Beato for an hour so I can watch this Matt interview.
