family is not worth it most of the time,
there is really nothing special about blood.

since
I am so cold I have been able to justify that
and live with only seeing my mother once a year

and that's as close as I get
to family

When I was in elementary school I was always hoping that when we would get checked for lice or scoliosos that they would find something.

I didn't understand exactly what it would mean
but I thought it would be like getting picked for some sort of prize.

I did get a second lice check one time

but it was just dandruff.

Most people start taking down
Christmas decorations today or tomorrow.
I'm always sad when I see
abandoned trees on the curb-side
the first week of January, ready
for the trash collection.
