A bit of sleuthing and Apple Music may have solved the Sax man mystery, ‘Horn Section’ is credited to Ron Blake & James King.

Ron Blake is probably most prominently known as a Sax player in the SNL live band, James King is/was a member of Fitz & the Tantrums, who contributed Sax to another recent Watt release, the Stones ‘Hackney Diamonds’, he was all over ‘Sweet Sounds of Heaven’, the one with Lady Gaga.

Not sure how true this video is but it goes about stating how Betterman was directly influenced by Save it for Later. I believe Betterman was actually written when Ed was a teenager and performed by Bad Radio first. he actually wanted to give it to Chrissy Hinde to perform on a benefit album for Green Peace. In the studio when they recorded the backing track Dave Wakeling from English Beat was there and was like, hey thats mine.

Yup... I mean seems legit. Ed's Save It For Later outro sneaks in a few faint "can't find a better man"

I feel like the "this rock song is a ripoff of this rock song" video has been around since the dawn of YouTube.

agreed and while there are no verifiable sources for this the guy does a very solid job of presenting the evidence.

there are some songs out there that i can think of are majorly influenced by other songs but for the most part they are kind of unnoticed by the general populace. I watched this video a few days ago and never really made the connection but now that i hear it i kind of cant unhear it

I believe Cormac McCarthy’s aphorism “books are made from other books” carries over to pop music.

Pete Townsend was also tagging save it for later at end of let my love open the door. Long ago. Same progressions just different keys. It's all one song
