Sorry, but I'm out of the loop: is this about the "Lost Dogs II" leak we had months ago? If that's the case I didn't know it was because someone had access to his Google Drive account :haha:
I'm sure this is amicable and like many already said he probably wants to slow down. Stuverud would be a great fit! I really liked his drumming. Or Josh Freese, if he's not touring with one of the 1,000 bands he works with.

Edit: I also don't want Klinghoffer to be the new drummer. I don't know exactly why but he rubs me the wrong way

Think it might.

Leave it there and have some dignity about it. He was a vital creative input since day one
And to full his seat with some session head would be appalling. In any meaningful sense nobody can fill that seat. They’re a bland tribute act if they carry on now. They already are in many ways.

Leave it there.

May not be imminent, but if it’s not Richard Stuverud as the pick, I can see Jeff bailing.

Regan Hagar is better than Stuverud, and Gossard’s closest friend and business partner.

So, I guess this means Evacuation will never be played live again.

I’m grateful Matt drummed for as long as he did. 27 years is a good stretch.

Yeah that would be a sudden turn in the wrong direction.

Touring is hard on your body. What an amazing career. Thank you, Matt.

I hope PJ doesn’t hang it up now. If they keep it rolling my prediction is Krusen.

Having a hard time wrapping my head around this one...

I've seen PJ live 6 times starting in 1998 right after he joined PJ on the North American tour so I've never seen any other drummer with the band. Last saw them in St. Paul in 2023 so it saddens me that I'll never hear any of the Dark Matter tracks live with Matt behind the kit. Damn he left the band on a high point on that record. It's hard for me to imagine any other drummer playing any of the Matt era songs.

I sincerely doubt this will happen but my biggest worry is the band all but drops everything post-Yield and just does hits from the 90's. Tell me I'm insane for thinking that please. There's a contingent of grunge fan bois who want that to happen and would love nothing more than to have Dave A. back in the band playing nothing but Ten-Vitalogy songs.

I'm certain his parting was totally amicable and part of a long conversation he had with the rest of the band. They still perform such a high level that it has to be hard for a drummer at Matt's age to feel like he can keep up and still have the power and the quality the music deserves be there. I'd love to hear him go into more detail in an interview—he's a class guy and I can see him wanting to leave while he's at the top and not because he can't swing it anymore without hurting himself.

Would make sense if this is it

Ed used to say regularly that Matt was the driving force keeping the band going

was also incredibly unqiue how quickly Matt could come up to speed on the catalogue when he joined them; and that was when they had only a few albums

would expect at least a lengthy hiatus

if not drifting off into nowheresville

even when together the albums turned 6 years apart

but rest assured

when stuverud filled in (admirably, imo), he played some gigatron stuff: superblood, seven o'clock, quick escape.. can't remember if there were any other matt-era songs he did. i don't believe josh played on any post-yield songs

I saw them play one song with Dave Krusen at the R&R Hall of Fame ceremony. Other than that, I've only known PJ live shows with Matt. It's weird to think that if I see them again, he won't be there. But he's given me some of my all time favorite music and the most memorable live experiences. I wish him well and I look forward to whatever PJ has in store for us in the future.
