Oh yeah, "the artist formerly known as..."

I'll have to hear that one again, I just did the one listen through and can't remember the details.

I should if I still have my old "Top Thirty Prince Songs" blog post saved somewhere and bust it out.

Through the course of "What an Experience", Janelle morphs into Rihanna and Lauryn Hill.

For some reason the Lauryn Hill thing never jumped out at me in her work in general, but now that you've mentioned it in this thread, I can definitely hear it at times.

I've been trying to find the specific Lauryn Hill songs I was reminded of in "Victory", and it's "To Zion" and "Ex-Factor". There's also some la la laaaaing in "What an Experience" which I couldn't place but I know is there in LH somewhere...

The chorus to Electric Lady makes me dance around my room singing into my hairbrush like a 9 year old girl.

[This is a good thing]

has anyone been to a Janelle Monae show? she's coming here in a couple of weeks, and was thinking about buying tix for my wife and me. They are a bit pricey, but if it's worth it, i'll pull the trigger.

I'm hoping to see her next week. The reviews for the first two shows make it sound like it's a can't miss event.

I've seen her three times and she absolutely doesn't disappoint, even in a festival setting. Pull that trigger!
