Your review is exactly what I was worried about. I'll still give this a listen at some point, but I'm in no rush.

I had the same feeling with that latest Arctic Monkeys record, at first it didnt do much for me. But now I can really appreciate it. However I still think is their worst, and I already have the feeling I will like 'Slow Rush' less than the others...

Re: Tame Impala
I enjoy a fair few Tame Impala songs, indeed I love one or two, but being from Perth, the epicentre of all things Tame Impala, I can't shake the feeling that these guys may well be one of the most overrated bands going around at the moment.

You don’t have to be from Perth to think that.Higgs wrote:I enjoy a fair few Tame Impala songs, indeed I love one or two, but being from Perth, the epicentre of all things Tame Impala, I can't shake the feeling that these guys may well be one of the most overrated bands going around at the moment.

Re: Tame Impala
I gave this a spin in the car yesterday while doing errands. My official review is that it will probably take a few listens to really find a groove with it, but I don’t think I have the desire to give it a few more listens to find out.

Re: Tame Impala
I probably need to give Currents a bit more of a listen, but this actually seems more lively to me so far - 3 songs in. I might lose my patience with it but not yet.
I am definitely repeating myself, but I did appreciate the first album and EP that came before it, sounded kind of poppy but also a bit psychedelic. After those initial release there’s a turn to a more electronic sound to me that seems more meh to my ears. This album so far repeats that letter formula but the songs don’t revert to the background of whatever I am doing as quickly as the last two albums.
Edit: as it goes on it does start to drag. I now have no memory of the songs that came before the one I am listening to. Weird.
Edit 2: I am just about at the end. This fell apart quickly. Like others I just got bored. What it reminds me of is Beck’s Colors, except two things: (1) Colors was WAY better in that the songs are mostly really strong and keep your attention and (2) Beck knew on that album how to edit his impulses making them seem fresh - this Tame Impala album is way too long for what he is doing and doesn’t keep your attention.
This album isn’t altogether bad, but I am not sure I have too many reasons to listen to it again. Maybe if I had invested in him as an artist over a longer period of time I could see it, but this ends up falling into the same pattern as the prior two albums, initially appealing but wears off and just sort of falls into a nothing background.

Flawless opener. So damn good. KP conjures up the best bass and drum tones.Chris_H_2 wrote:i f'n LOVE one more year. it's such a fantastic song.

Re: Tame Impala
I strangely wish I liked these guys more than I do (and I've tried), but this song is such an unqualified banger:

You strangely feel that? Just like them more, dummy. It's easy. Kevin Parker's foreskin is more talented than your entire family tree, Spenno.
