Actuall neil was kind of a pussy about it. "Safety concerns" as the official reason for cancellation. He could have spoke up.
I think Eddie's the pussy here. He yells and then delivers a kind of self-glorifying pacifist speech. Neil was gonna play Tel Aviv, and when he was forced to cancel, donates to cross-cultural art initiatives. That's actually trying to help.
Certainly but I still feel Neil could have said something. he seemed to have pulled out after mounting pressure from fans/musicians alike.
Neil was going to play and was forced to cancel by the Israeli government due to security concerns. It wasn't his call to his cancel, and when he did, his statement addressed the situation directly.

If there was a way to spell out the H sound in hebrew, I'd be dropping gold all over this thread.

Why are we saying "great response"?
I don't mean to be antagonistic here but after reading that statement a couple of times, it feels to me like he isn't... really... saying anything. It's just hollow platitudes.

I think he's saying I've always been anti-war and I'm not going to tailor my sentiments to please a certain demographic, but he's trying to say it in a diplomatic way. At least that's what I get from it.

Here come the semantics police... Maybe I should have said "It's an appropriate, well-crafted response."
Better?

I'm not policing anything. I'm confused as to why folks were praising that response when it felt to me like a whole lot of nothing that neither clarified his stance nor addressed the criticism. I could be missing something.

If a lead singer other than Ed said this, this paragraph would be getting annihilated on this board.

How can one read that and think his statements are meaningless or thoughtless? I realize many of his sentiments are unoriginal, but they strike a familiar and sensitive nerve nonetheless.
He was drunk and amped up at a show, hopped on his soapbox and let some shit off of his chest, like so many of us have. When he woke up the next morning, in a sober and quiet moment, he felt relief instead of regret. This is a well-articulated message of community and he should do it more often. Or at least use this passion to make better songs.

I defy you to come up with something Weird Al could've said that
wouldn't end up with everyone sucking his wiener?

Or Chris Martin or Matt Bellamy or Thom Yorke. Though I don't know if people bring flags to Radiohead shows.

Spin control, for sure... so what? Should we really blast Ed for making positive comments about world peace in response to all of the hateful venom spewed his way this week?
I'm usually game for an Ed beat-down, but I'm impressed by the way he responded here.
