Until there are four huge conferences - like 16-20 teams each.

I am just glad the PAC hasn't added anyone east of the Mississippi River.

Spanning 3 time zones kinda defeats the purpose.
It will get much worse. I bet PAC adds like BYU, Fresno, SD State, etc. It wouldn't shock me if Texas jumped ship to the PAC either.
PAC will never add BYU--too much of a culture clash. Cal and UCLA will also never allow a Cal State school in (so no Fresno, SDSU, SJSU). If the Texoma schools don't jump over like they originally planned, the likely candidates decades from now would be Boise State, UNLV, Nevada, and/or New Mexico. And I'll add a real darkhorse: UC Davis.

I can't remember if it was here on RM or on the U-DUB message boards but in the past couple years there was a thread postulating over 4 potential 16-team superconferences divided regionally.

It made too much sense so it will probably never happen (sense, that is, IF the four 16 team groups are inevitable).

I finally found the realignment proposal I was talking about. 4 conferences of 18 teams each split in two divisions: schedules are 8-game round robin against your division and 4 other games against whoever else. 12 team playoff, with the 4 conference champs each getting a first round bye.

Kansas has said they are not going anywhere without K State. I think they signed some sort of agreement. Also, F Iowa State. They bring nothing to the table for a super conference.

At first glance...

Swap Notre Dame and Rutgers.

Can't leave BYU out.

I would laugh so hard if Wazzu got bounced to make room for BYU.

That came from a file I had on my computer that I made a long time ago, so it likely didn't take me 5 minutes to originally make. Taking a closer look at that, I realized that was my scenario trying to realistically project the desires of each conference, so here are the answers to your questions:
--The Big Ten only wants AAU schools (or in the case of Nebraska, former AAU schools). Iowa State and Kansas are in the AAU, and K-State is not. hence that odd alignment. Otherwise, I would easily swap K-State to be with Kansas somewhere.
--Notre Dame in the Big Ten has made way too much sense for so long, but egos run amuck has let that ship sail. Like it or not, Notre Dame, Maryland, and Rutgers are where they are for a reason.
--BYU definitely deserves a spot over BSU or UMN, but like I said, the PAC will avoid BYU like the plague.

Kansas and K State make sense in the ACC. Not geographically but KU is obviously a hoops power and K State is ok at hoops and has had some football success.

Yeah, do something like put them there, WVU in the SEC and ND in the Big Ten.

With 100 or so football teams and like 400 basketball teams I could see future conference alignment groups being totally separate.

Who says I wanted to go to the Big Ten? SEC is a much better fit competitively speaking.

It's no secret Mizzou was trying to get into the Big Ten for years while in the Big 8/Big 12.

I agree 100% with your SEC assessment. I'm far from a Big Ten defender. Conference is down big time.

At least they got rid of the "legends" and "leaders" division.

Agreed. That was dumb.
