The thing that bugs me with this challenge thing is exactly what I experienced yesterday...

My brother-in-law challenged both my wife and me, and neither one of us had any interest in doing this thing. So we gladly each donated $100 to the charity. Neither of us said anything about it, and moved on our way. A while later (apparently after the 24 hour window), we start getting "harassing" messages from random non-family people who were tagged in the video on how we didn't do a video, with the "Where's your video, BRO? YOU PUSSY" type of sentiment. Fuck you, I don't need to pour water on my head, and fuck you, I don't need to broadcast it to everyone that I decided to donate $100 in order to try and make myself look good.

I bet harmless would have hated this

Well ... the "left hand doesn't know what the right is doing" thing is very honorable, but if you're being harassed, just post "donated." and move on.

Because of a trending internet craze called the "ice bucket challenge".

I find the backlash to the analysis of this phenomenon to be the most interesting thing of all. There have been lots of pieces floating around asking questions like, "How much awareness is actually being raised? What other messages are these videos saying? (About access, about disability, about peer pressure) How has this been distorted from the start?" And whenever I've read something like this, most comments are along the lines of what bodysnatcher described: "It raises money, why ask questions?" "Sounds like someone is afraid to do it!" "$1.5 million is great, so who cares what you think?" As someone who sort of, you know, trades in critical analysis, this resistance is fascinating and troubling.

Ed should have brought the ALS ice bucket challenge to Israel
