Just when I thought nothing in wrestling would legitimately shock me anymore, last night happened.

Re: Official WWE/Pro Wrestling thread
Yeah, I can't remember when there was a truly "shocking" moment like that. I understand some of the blowback it's getting this morning ("Why Lesnar? Why not some young guy they can push?") but the faces in the crowd after the pinfall showed just how effective it was. For as much as the WWE machine tries to manufacture "moments" (like the promo that opened the night), this one is going to be talked about for years, while Hogan-Austin-Rock will be forgotten by tomorrow.

Re: Official WWE/Pro Wrestling thread
i am definitely one that thought Brock getting to beat the streak made no sense, he didnt need it, the only good thing was he was believable in doing it, but if this was the year it was gonna end, and the fact that they plan to push Roman Reigns big time then he should have been the one, the shield put Taker out after last years Mania so the story was there and it would have actually benefited Reigns, last night did nothing for Brock imo
the shock was pretty impressive though, but i think it also carried over to Bryan's title win, i think the crowd was still in shock so i dont think they got quite as big of a Yes chant as they wanted, or at least it didnt seem like it on tv

It's gotta be the most shocking thing since the Montreal screwjob. I thought it was genius booking, they made Lesnar look weak during the buildup, this match probably had less doubt about whether undertaker would win then any mania match he's had since the streak became something they promoted.

Re: Official WWE/Pro Wrestling thread
My guess is that undertaker decided this was gonna be it after they had already booked this match, otherwise I figure they'd have him lose to someone like Wyatt.

Re: Official WWE/Pro Wrestling thread
They're severely limiting Wyatt by putting him in a feud with Cena, whose stock continues to fall with each subsequent ppv (Cena's, that is). They can tease how the storyline can be more than just good guy vs. bad guy, but due to Cena's value outside the ring (endorsements, media appearances, Make-A-Wish), the dynamics really can't change. Then again, besides feuding with Bryan, I don't know who would be a good match for the Wyatts, given how fans have started to get behind them due to how good the gimmick is.

Re: Official WWE/Pro Wrestling thread
I guess I'm not surprised, but I dont see the point of having Wyatt face Cena at Wrestlemania if Wyatt was going to lose. It leaves both guys with nowhere to go from here. With a loss Cena could have gone into a tailspin and had some kind of redemption storyline building into next year, and Wyatt obviously could have used the rub for his future.Simple Torture wrote:They're severely limiting Wyatt by putting him in a feud with Cena, whose stock continues to fall with each subsequent ppv (Cena's, that is). i agree, but i dont think its over with them yet, i kinda feel like this is an attempt to turn cena, though i think if it happens it will be short term, maybe a couple of months, probably what they were thinking of doing with Bryan before they scraped it. i guess we will see but i dont think the mania match was an end to the feudnumbers wrote:I guess I'm not surprised, but I dont see the point of having Wyatt face Cena at Wrestlemania if Wyatt was going to lose. Re: Official WWE/Pro Wrestling thread
still shocked by the end of the streak. and that's why we love wrestling. i was with 8 others and the room was dead quiet. it's those moments you live for as a wrestling fan. taker may have gone to 25-0 and i'd have loved it, for sure, but we're going to remember this (pretty crappy, really) match and that ending forever.
the key to whether this actually means anything beyond the end of the undertaker's vaunted streak is, as always, how it is followed up on. in terms of the character he plays, lesnar is excellent choice to end it. he is legit tough, he is legit athletic, and he *should* be beating 49 year old men in fights, no matter how tough those men are. he really is what they say he is- a beast. and they've not accurately portrayed him that way for two years. this is the reset button, and how lesnar is portrayed and how he performs going forward will determine whether or not the streak ending match means anything beyond the undertaker facing wrestling mortality.
it'll be an exciting raw tonight.
personally, it's tough to see the undertaker's accomplishment of 21-0 "soiled" with 21-1. i was a believer in keeping this thing intact- it was the undertaker's biggest career distinction, and it was the undertaker's alone. i was there in person for the first match of the streak, and had discussed just this weekend going to wherever the final streak match was going to be, because i *knew* it would be portrayed that way, and I *knew* it wasn't going to end. turns out i *knew* nothing, jon snow. nobody knew nothing. however, even if this isn't his last match, i cannot disagree with the decision to put someone over in such a big way because in wrestling it is what you're "supposed to do". it's a convention that can be bucked, for better or worse, but we all know the undertaker is 'old school', and that is one thing i had chosen to ignore when i *knew* the streak was in no jeopardy.
wrestling got me good. can't wait to see what happens how.

Theyll probably follow up on this by having Lesnar lose to Cena and Bryan drop the title to HHH.

I just watched The Montreal Screwjob for the first time. I was a big Bret Hart fan, but there would be no way in hell I'd allow him or anyone to switch organizations as champion. I have no memory of him in the WCW.

McMahon didnt have to do it like that. The thing made for such great tv and drama though that I'm glad it happened.CopperTom wrote:I just watched The Montreal Screwjob for the first time. yeah, most likely, i think he had less ability then Hogan and was handed the Title because Hogan was gonna take some time off for movies. he was strong, crazy and had face paint, he was in WWF at the perfect time to get over. now a days he would be on the same level as Ryback or someone like that, very popular for a short time then the fans would be over him

Goldberg was at least as overrated as warrior.
