I don't think it means anything.
so you mean if one washed up rock star calls himself and a dead rock star better than another washed up rock star its all purely, uh, subjective?
No mal that's just great comedy.
sorry, i was using your post as a way of expressing exasperation about how stupid this entire discussion has become. not to mention the arrogance of statements like -
Kurt Cobain and I were the two top scribes of the 90s
I don't imagine Kurt Cobain would lower himself to that type of commentary today were he still alive. it's ludicrous. Kurt Cobain wasn't much like that if memory serves me correctly about the 90s. and I don't care what anyone thinks of In Utero, Vs, or Siamese Dream. the only one making it into a competition is Corgan, and I'm pretty sure he lost all relevance 20 years ago along with the rest of these guys.
But then, I'm out of touch so i know nothing.

This didn't really hit me until right now, but doesn't a musician approaching his contemporaries as "competitors" seem like a rather bizarre, unnecessarily adverserial way of looking at things? I mean, one's ego must be suffocatingly fragile and inflated to think that someone else's level of success detracts from one's own. Art isn't a competition.

It really was a lot of noise about nothing.
Sort of like how bands from the 90's would step on their distortion pedal in order to exaggerate dynamic transitions, and how at some of these times maybe more creative or engaging songwriting would have served them better than simply layering fuzz or volume.
But I dunno.
I'm sorry, but that's retarded. By your simplification, Corgan did exactly what the Pixies and Nirvana became known for, except--here's the thing, Corgan did so while incorporating more complex chord structures than both. I'm not saying that makes him better, I'm just saying you don't really have much of a coherent point.
At any rate, the bald banshee was writing stuff like
this while Eddie was figuring out the difference between a minor and major chord and warbling about various bodies of water. But hey, it isn't a competition.

So,, yeah, this music is good, and it is what it is in the grand scheme of music culture, but there's no reason to pretend these guys were as or more gifted than their predecessors.

I thought this was a competition. You're going to have to show a lot more poise if you want to take home the crown.

Corgan's ego is beyond fucked. I think he may be obsessed with legacy, and all of the dick-measuring that goes along with it. He's also apparently incapable of avoiding his own press, so in this digital age his insecurities boil over with ease.

It just occurred to me that he is the same person as Quentin Tarantino.

It takes a unique brand of douchiness to label oneself a "scribe."
