I listened this morning and found it very focused, everything is fleshed out but lean. I could see this being the only album I really return to over a live show. That said, I also find the current era of Phish far and away my preference.

You just didn't like that a PRS was used.

I can't get with these dudes at all. I've tried (lord knows I've tried). I went with a friend to one of the Baker's shows that summer with a pretty open mind. There was parts I liked, I mean how can you not enjoy weed and guitar solos. When it got pretty Allmans-y I was into it, but then it would shift into this shit ass party rock, dad jam stuff that sounded like Jimmy Buffet. It was a fun night cause of the company, but I was pretty meh. Went again in December 18, and same shakes. Boring, tepid "funk". I think there was a No Quarter cover that was pretty cool but again, nothing.

It sucks cause sometimes I feel like I just don't get it, I'm missing out on something clicking. But then it hits me, they just suck.

Its funny, as some who listens to ALOT of Dead, I just can't get on board.

After Dead and Co at Shoreline in 18, we were all out there relaxing and coming down a bit. This wook walked up to us and started yammering and quasi punishing us.

"You link Umphrey's ?
Nope
You like Phish?
Nope
What about Panic?
Nope.
Oh what the fuck man?!
Eh, the Dead are bad enough, kinda where I draw the line"

PS- I enjoyed Trey at the Fare The Well shows. Seeing them in California was amazing.

For now, if you like the AOR moments of Wilco, and you're into the Allman Bros, Beatles, and Floyd, I think you're safe to at least give the first couple songs a shot even if you've never enjoyed them before. The songwriting is stronger here than on anything I've heard from them before.
If you liked this, it might be worth checking out Ghosts of the Forest, which was Trey's last solo album that came out last year. "A Life Beyond the Dream" was originally a GOTF song but didn't appear on that album.
