Whilst living abroad in South Korea I purchased a Schecter Hellraiser, this one specifically (in black)
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ ... ric-guitar
I almost didn't because of the notion that I couldn't do much tone wise with EMGs, but the fact that these were EMGs and the guitar had push/pull coil taps intrigued me. Needless to say I found the guitar was just right for me. The neck is larger than a strat-style guitar (more Les Paul style size neck, it's wider). I then proceeded to record a 5 song acoustic EP demo in the studio, the guitar was able to give me great sustain and playability when I did certain solos, and real good clarity on the cleans when I did various overdubs. I just created a soundcloud but here's what I would consider my first "single" :

On to a slightly different topic/question. I've noticed the lot of you (at least in the last few pages) have combo amps or the ministacks with the lunchbox style heads. My question to you all is, do any of you play in a full band situation and if so what style of music do you play? How does your rig mix with the rest of your band's sounds?
I recall my band in college had a particularly loud drummer, and my combo amp had to be cranked to almost max just so it could be at proper levels. This is a complaint I hear a lot about the lunchbox heads like the Orange Tiny Terror and Dark Terrors. I wish I could afford the full size Orange OR-50 or Rockerverb. I played through a Rockerverb 50 for a show about a year ago and fell in love with it.

cool guitar. As long as I've been playing I never really gave EMGs much playing time.

I've only listened to Phase One so far but I love it. Very nice fuzz tone and I love the driving rhythm. I'll listen to some more since I enjoyed it and leave a few comments on your page.

Thanks. The first link is actually stuff I wrote a couple years back for two separate albums. I just never tend to finish stuff. I can't really drum, my singing is awful, and its difficult getting my friend who's an exceptional progressive drummer to focus on helping me complete some of this stuff. Trying to gauge his interest is like watching the reaction of your pet as you show it a card trick.
I've got probably 5 albums of stuff that's just sitting around unfinished. And since I started working a new job back in August, I haven't had a whole lot of time to pick up an instrument. Sucks, but I appreciate any and all feedback.

I used a Vox Tonelab ST for portability in between gigs (In South Korea most venues already have house amps, some good and some bad. I used the Tonelab so I could have complete control over how I should sound) and it came in quite handy in the studio I used for my EP. I was fairly pleased with the clean guitar sounds I got out of the Tonelab, whilst using my Martin for all the acoustic guitar tracks:

Guitar Center is apparently dropping Mesa Boogie from their inventory, or rather, Mesa Boogie isn't going to sell their products in Guitar Center stores anymore. Fuck.

I've got a feeling Guitar Center will be out of business soon. They owe more than one company money and are unable to pay. Apparently Guitar center had (and I'm paraphrasing) 70 or so million dollars of cash on hand two years ago. They are now down to 9 or so million. They're also owned by Bain.

I really hope that's inaccurate. My brother works in one. Yeah, there's the Romney connection, but it's still the easiest place to try and find moderately pro gear.

I haven't bought anything in an actual music store for years, I'm not sure I'd even notice if they all shut down. Everything is at least twice the price I'd pay online, though I realise that probably isn't the case elsewhere.

We've got 3 local music stores in our area, two are regional chains with roughly 4 stores each, the 3rd choice is a lone store owned by a former car salesman/musician. It's my favorite one and the one that people go to hang out at and meet other musicians. All 3 of these places are have had a difficult 10 years. Of course we had Katrina fucking everything up too. The nearest Guitar Center is in Mobile, AL and I don't know anyone here that makes the hour long drive to go there.
Anyways my point is that I'm afraid music stores in general are in big trouble.

I'm about as troubled by that as I am the demise of record stores.

At least Olive garden has bottomless soup and salad
This sums up Guitar Center pretty well:
The sales guy had a faux hawk and a fake backstage pass, and asked for my name and phone number
Previously, I had began to receive strange messages on my cell. A stranger wanted to "touch base on some deals he had going on".
It turned out to be a sales person from Guitarcenter. After I had bought something there, my personal info was collected, and now used to phone-spam me.
After brief hesitation, I declined to give my name. As the weird energy of desperation and resentment filled the air, the sales dude snapped: "Fine, just don't come back to return it to me".
Since the receipt had the Guitarcenter return policy PRINTED ON THE BACK , I briefly considered returning it right then and there, just for the fuck of it. I also considered strangling him with his hot topic wallet chain. I didn't. He's just doing his job trying to survive as a failed musician. I can relate, etc.
Guitarcenter is like a chick with a smelly asshole. You're horny, so you have little choice. But why not make her bathe? It is time we wipe the metaphorical anus of music clean, and return it to it's original shade of pink, so we can enjoy it without holding our nose and gag.
