aside from Trag's early curveball, these have all been pretty close to form for a first round

To be honest, I thought Sarge's pick wasn't first round material; but after listening to it once, I've been humming it all morning. So there's something there.
Some trends:
-4 of the 8 songs from the first round are the classic "musical number where characters sing their hearts out" kind of songs. No surprises there (Monorail Song, We Do, See My Vest, Qwik-E-Mart).
-2 of the 8 songs play over the closing credits (Sonic Youth's theme, Talkin' Softball).
-1 song is an in-universe advertisement (Canyonero).
-1 song comes from an in-universe musical (Dr. Zaius), while 1 other (Drop Da Bomb) is an in-universe music video.
-Only 1 song is an instrumental (Sonic Youth's theme).
-Only 1 song comes from an episode after Season 9.

I haven't done research yet, but my 'off the top of my head' list is down to 7 songs.

Of the first 10 picks, only 7 were on my big board (including the ones I took)--I never considered Canyonero, the Sonic Youth theme, or Drop Da Bomb.

That's because none of them are worth picking in the first round.

As you might imagine, I'm being more diplomatic because I'm running the tournament, chud.
