"When it's looking dark, punch the future in the face" is such a good lyric.

saw KV last night. we missed the first 15 minutes of Chastity Belt, which i'm still a little bummed about.
this was my third time seeing KV. the whole thing was tight, and the third song in they played Punks in the Beerlight by Silver Jews

There's absolutely nothing I dislike about Kurt Vile. In fact, his kind of folky ambling makes a neat little venn diagram across Dylan and The Diamond Sea in my head. I should have his entire discog memorized, but somehow I don't even own a single album of his. I'm most familiar with Wakin' on a Pretty Daze and to a lesser extent, b'lieve I'm goin... and that's pretty much it. Might be time to camp in this thread a while and do a deep dive. I've really been enjoying this new album. It will be interesting to hear how got here over the last ten or so years.

Goldtones leads pretty neatly into the first five songs of B'lieve I'm Goin' Down when doing a marathon listening session, doesn't it?

yes. Wakin' is fantastic start to finish. what a follow-up that album is to Smoke Ring.

Honestly, the deeper I dive, the lower I rank Wakin'. The title track and KV Crimes are a captivating 1-2 punch, and Air Buds>Goldtones is a killer closing combo, but the in between doesn't hold me the same way that B'lieve and this new one do. Need to spend more time with Bottle it In.

I've been consuming (watch my moves) quite a bit this week.
Faves: Fo Sho, Cool Water, Flyin (like a fast train)
Love the way he sings "Coo-oo-ool Wa-a-a-ter" on that track.
Love how the synths coalesce into a cicada-like hum underneath Fo Sho
Love the late night feel of this album.
Love how none of these songs really need to get anywhere.

I haven't listened in a while, but i always loved Smoke Ring For My Halo, never got into anything he did before or after that album. Saw him live a year or 5 ago and the show was incredibly boring.
