Was DiPoto brought in before they knew they were getting DD? I could see him walking the plank with Cherington if not.
Either way, they hired him less than a week ago so it shows they're not completely giving up on data.
Well I was thinking if Cherington was the one who brought him in, which it kind of sounded like at the time, things have changed dramtically since he was hired.

Edit: At the time it sounded like DiPoto was just going to do some consulting here until he found another job.

Maybe you're right.

The reason I'm so happy that they made this move, is not so much because it's Dombrowski(although I'm happy with that,) it's that it's not someone from the Theo tree.

Throw in Chi Chi Gonzalez, eat 10M or so of Choo's money and you've got a deal.

Or Nick Martinez. I might actually do that. I do like Chi Chi a lot but I worry he doesn't have the stuff to pitch well in our park half of the year.

considering it happened on dave dombrowski's watch, i think it's safe to say that his time with the red sox has been a complete failure

IS Dombrowski really going to hire Frank Wren?

Wow, no one has failed forward like that since George W Bush

I really hope for the Red Sox fans sake they don't hire Frank Wren. That would be a terrible idea.

That's exactly why I hope they do hire him.

Well, if they were in the AL West I'd be all for it.

It's not like Dombrowski wouldnt have final say on all matters, I dont think it really matters that much who the GM is.

In Wren's defense the Braves did draft ok when he was there. As long as DD has final say. Don't let Wren have free will to decide to lock up guys or sign free agents or make trades or draft his children.

My dream is to never see Pedroia in a Red Sox uniform again...7 games over .500 without him, 17 games under with him this year

Those kinds of stats usually mean literally nothing about the player in question, though.

Do you guys think the Sox will build for the future around the young core and current prospects or keep trying this "retool" thing they've been doing for a while now?

Honestly, I have no idea. I don't know what to expect this offseason with Dombrowski. I knew how Theo, and then Chenington, operated, but DD is a wild card.

I don't think they are that far away from being a good team, so my guess is they add Price or Cueto, try to move either Panda or Hanley and go for it.
