it's a bad song, jorge
I fucking love the music so much, trag.
There's some good stuff happening -- particularly Jeff's bass fills. But Ed's lyrics are awful, and the song never really hits an apex, just sort of peters out
Contrast that with this song where there is no good stuff happening

Also I totally disagree, the harmonic arc in "Present Tense" is fully realized and beautiful. Yeah the lyrics are kind of cringy but whatever, Pearl Jam's lyrics are often cringy

This song certainly suffers from hearing it in isolation. If this was just another album track I don't think it'd be getting as much love or scorn. It'd just be derided like LTRP or Supersonic.
Plus points: It has energy, the production is airy, guitars have character, Ed's mixed well.

Is it the human large or small mouth bass or the musical instrument... The English language is difficult

I enjoyed the song, decent rocker and had some really good bits, found my self humming parts of it for the next hour or so after 3 or 4 listens. Found the lyrics start of clear and strong but what is with the lalala bit after the first chorus, really ruins the flow of the song and each time i thinking 'is this like the clint eastwood movie when they put the scene with the fake baby in?' - did pearl jam forget to put the version with the full lyrics in? Sounds so weird, as i said ruins the flow of the song.
Mike Solo is wicked but sounds like he was in another room when playing it- would have preferred a cleary, sharper sound. I did like that after the solo it just cuts to a single guitar riff for a bit - that was a bit different to anything they've done i reckon. Some of Ed's vocals are hard to understand (thats normal), did like the overdubbing of the last word on a few lines and some of the growls are good but one goes too long.
Overall pretty good song and found it enjoyable.

There's a handful of songs I'd call a 1: Amongst The Waves, Can't Deny Me, maybe 2-3 more. There's quite a bit of material, particularly from the last two records, that I'd consider 2-star songs, but also some older stuff like Present Tense or I Am Mine.
There's no way this song is as great as a 4 or 5, but a 3 seems fair even if I wouldn't immediately seek this track out when wanting to hear PJ.
Wow, present tense a 2? (4 for me) I fucking love that song, i also like Amongst the Waves (3 for me).
Funny how different people can have such differing views - love it.
Spot on with Cant Deny me!!

I'm predicting a one-off colab for the ages in YTCracker & PJ
YTCracker: Focus on your focusness
Ed: I said it's 2 in the a.m. and I've been grinding on dreamweaver all through the day yea (yea yah) https://youtu.be/XVnMhvLIA_o?t=26
I played this on the tv earlier and my daughter spontaneously started dabbing and flossing, so I guess I have to bump it up to a 2 to maintain my cred with the Pre-K crowd.

It also has Ed's best use and delivery of the word 'f*cked'.
