in theory this should've been everything I want in a horror movie but it seemed disjointed and random, I'm not sure I understood the story being dripfed through the scares; I did think the resolution and idea behind the premise was cool, I'll probably eventually go back and see if a second viewing improves things for me

is it? I've avoided it because I can't stomach the idea of any Ito media without his highly detailed black and white art style; I'm looking forward to the Adult Swim adaptation (if it ever arrives)

have you read Black Hole by Charles Burns? its not horror per se, but it was one of the most disturbing books i got

Also, of all the Tomie adaptations, I think Tomie Unlimited is the wildest, followed by Rebirth.
