I know it's kind of a cliche at this point but their stuff just works - in my experience, anyway.

Bozos who complain that Apple is for idiots because you can't endlessly customise eight million different things are kind of missing the point. There are probably more nuanced complaints but that's the main thing I've had people yammer at me about, "yeah, but can your iPhone do this? I can change these icons, see!"

I've just had nothing but bad experiences with their customer service in the past. The last nail was a few years back when we bought an iPod touch for our kid. I took it out of the box to set up and it froze. Basically a brick. We took it to apple and they said we couldn't return it because it was "tampered" with. I said it came out of the box like that and the smug assholes said, word for word, "that wouldn't happen with an apple product". After calling supervisor after supervisor, I just said fuck it.

That's just fucked up.
How are the return policies regulated in the US?
It's such a weird scenario compared to what we have in the EU.

Return policies are pretty much up to the seller, I'm sure there was some small print somewhere. They are claiming the iPod was tampered with, and if it was, it was done so before we got it. But since I didn't take it out of the box in the store to make sure it worked first, I have no proof of that.

Guys, at this point the day-to-day experience difference between Apple and Android is next to nothing, and you're all at least 10 years too old to be strongly and noisily opined on the subject of phones.

I just shut people out emotionally until they don't call anymore.

That sounds as if in practice Apple products don't have any warranty once they leave the store. That excuse works in every imaginable scenario.

I thought return policies may be up to the stores in the US, we're relatively spoilt when it comes to this with EU regulations especially within a short time after purchase.

Basically they told me that it wasn't working because the device software had been tampered with. I explained to them that this is how it acted right out of the box, and as I am not one of those dumbasses that videotapes an "unboxing" and post it on YouTube, all I had was my word. They said that was impossible. I asked if there was any way that this was returned from someone else and mistakenly got resold to me, to which they also said was impossible. Basically, the douche hipster that works at the Apple Store for ten bucks an hour is apparently a much better, smarter, and cooler person than I'll ever be.

Aren't they called apple geniuses or something moronic like that?
That would be up to them to prove though as failed software tempering would leave traces and again they can use the same bullshit in every scenario as a bricked i-something will look the same no matter how it turned into a brick.

The thing is it could still work fine in the store but die within the warranty period without being tempered with.

If you end up with a faulty i-something you're practically in a no-win situation because their policy is that their product is flawless beyond reasonable doubt.
