Nothing short of invasive searches and forced confiscation of every gun in America will prevent attacks like this if someone is motivated enough. Like I said earlier in the thread, it's happened in Australia which has very restrictive gun laws. If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere.
Yes, more restrictive gun laws will help, but I think it's more likely to prevent some dipshit shooting his dipshit neighbour in a fight over his TV being too loud than events like this.
I just have to believe if there was a registry, stricter background checks, whatever, etc....This one could have been prevented. Dude asks to buy Military style body armor, automatic weapons, gn shop owner turns him down for Body Armor, dude buys weapons, kills 50 people.
All of those things should set off a red flag. All of his background should have came up at time of purchase and the owner of the shop should have could turned this guy in or at least notified the right people. This should not have happened.

The crazed Islamist in Sydney didn't buy his gun from a gun dealer. Neither did the Paris terrorists. Black markets exist and, where they do, these guys will find them.
And, in any case, the Boston bombers used homemade explosives. The 9/11 hijackers used boxcutters.
It won't stop. The United States has a mere fraction of the Muslim immigrants that Europe has. Regardless of any degree of gun reform, things are going to get much worse. Anyone not deeply concerned about this is deluding themselves.

I get it. Though i dont agree with the thinking "It wont solve it so lets do nothing about it" approach either. This one could have been prevented with better gun control.
I agree that you guys need much more restrictive gun laws but I'm pessimistic about that change coming any time soon and I think this is absolutely the wrong issue to link it to.
It's something that can likely only happen in a time of relative comfort and peace, not fear and insecurity (especially somewhat justified fear and insecurity).

Oh, it will never change because America. Though, you really dont feel like this one could have been stopped? This is a perfect issue to attach it to. The guy was probed by the FBI, twice, slipped through the cracks, attempted to buy military grade body armor, etc....
This guy could have been turned in when all that was happening. Absolutely this issue can be attached to this specific attack.
As unlikely as substantive gun control is, stricter regulations still seem more likely than finding an overnight solution to an issue that is likely going to be solved over decades, and is in large part dependent upon increased secularization and more stability/economic opportunity in the region. That being said, I agree with dime; Sandy Hook was basically the nightmare scenario involving guns, and it didn't shock the nation into some type of reform. I don't really see why this would.
