I've used Plex for ages for movie and TV show storage/playage but never really used it for music. So I pointed it at my music library (which is pretty substantial) and downloaded plexamp. I ran the sonic analysis on it (it took a week and a half running 24 hours per day!) and have been playing with it tonight.

The idea is it takes a sonic snapshot if your library and has a database of all songs therein. So you can do things like play a track and search for "sonically similar" tunes, or put in 2 tracks and it will search your library and make a 10 song playlist that "joins" the 2 tracks over the course.

Its really sweet and has in one night already allowed me to discover a whole heap of previously hidden random gems in my music library.

Think I might be playing with this a lot more.

This sounds like something from the "make up a fact about a musician" thread but I saw a Carly Rae Jepsen interview where she talked about sharing a chartered flight with Seal to attend some event and she witnessed him eat an entire loaf of bread, slice by slice

That sounds cool. Might try it.

"Sweet Home Alabama" has some good guitar playing but what kills it for me is that the chorus melody is exactly the same as the verse. And it's such a lame melody too.

What's lame about it?

You're right about it being "narrow", but the vocal is structured in a way that allows the guitar to color the space after each line, especially in the chorus. It's intentional!

Yeah, my whole point is that every line is the exact same. That's why I talked about the verse melody being the same as the chorus melody. And when the melody is as tight and limited as it is, moving in small stepwise intervals, the repetition drags even more. And yeah I know it's "intentional" -- I don't think they wrote it that way by accident. I just think it sucks!

They have plenty of great songs with melodic variation but yeah that one sucks
